ESP 202 - Esports Event Management and Security

Course Description

In this experiential, hands-on course, students will learn about online event management and security. Students will gain hands-on experience by providing both event management and security support to a regional esports or online event. Students will holistically critique esports and online sports event management practices used by themselves and others in terms of their parts, namely, business, marketing, technical aspects, and project management aspects. Using this information, they will implement event management and security strategies concerning cybersecurity, physical security, and network integrity in the hosting of an esports online or in-person event in the field. Course Learning Outcomes

Knowledge:
  • Define current terminology when discussing (orally and/or in writing) K-12, collegiate, and professional esports and online event management and security.
Application:
  • Implement current event management best practices while planning and/or executing esports or online events, inclusive of business, advertising, marketing, technical, and security aspects to protect all event participants in the virtual and physical spaces used for the event.implement current event management best practices while planning and/or executing Esports events, inclusive of business, advertising, marketing, and technical aspects.
Integration:
  • Correlate risks that new technology may create for esports players and participants based on past and current trends in cybersecurity practices.
  • Integrate proven time management strategies for other team sport events and technology-dependent events into their event planning and execution.

  • Construct a portfolio including, at a minimum, a combination of artifacts reflective of industry practice analysis, planning documentation, event stakeholder surveys, and a final reflection piece.

  • Demonstrate understanding of the network security issues for events, including physical and cybersecurity risks for players based on venue location or online delivery platform.

  • Develop a learning plan to build on the portfolio through feedback and reflection.
