Course Description
This introductory course provides students with the foundational theory and application of Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), commonly referred to as MIG welding, on ferrous metals. Students will develop practical skills through the proper setup, adjustment, and operation of GMAW equipment. The course emphasizes completing quality welds in the flat (1G/1F) and horizontal (2G/2F) positions, utilizing industry-standard terminology as defined by the American Welding Society (AWS). Application:
- Demonstrate proper handling, setup, and adjustment of GMAW equipment.
Integration:
- Demonstrate the ability to complete welds on ferrous metals (steel) in the flat and horizontal (1G/1F, 2G/2F) positions with the GMAW process.
Human Dimension:
- Collaborate with others to clarify concepts, explain requirements, and critique work related to course standards and the ability to independently perform required welds.
Caring - Civic Learning:
- Demonstrate and adhere to safe procedures in all welding and shop activities.
Learning How to Learn:
- Demonstrate the ability to identify common weld defects and make required techniques and parameter corrections to produce sound welds.
