Course Description
This course focuses on the theoretical and application of Shield Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). Students will begin with welds in the Flat (1F/G) and Horizontal (2F/G) positions, and progress to more advanced welds while learning the basic theory that will be added upon in
WPT 131. Students will also learn the application and proper techniques of oxy-fuel cutting process and then demonstrate proper cutting techniques. Group 2 course.

Application:
- Demonstrate proper handling, setup, and adjustment of SMAW equipment.
Integration:
- Demonstrate the ability to complete welds on steel in the flat (1 F/G) and horizontal (2F/G) positions with the SMAW process and demonstrate proper Oxy cutting techniques and practices.
Human Dimension:
- Collaborate with others to clarify concepts, explain requirements, and critique work related to course standards and the ability to independently perform required welds.
Caring - Civic Learning:
- Demonstrate and adhere to safe procedures in all welding and shop activities.
Learning How to Learn:
- Demonstrate the ability to identify common weld defects and make required techniques and parameter corrections to produce sound welds.
