Course Description

This course examines the impact of refrigerants on the environment and focuses on federal regulations regarding the use, recovery and disposal methods. Students are given the opportunity to earn their Type I, Type II or Universal Certification through this course. Upon successful completion of each test, the student will earn levels of certification recognized by the HVAC/R industry nationwide. Group 2 course.

Knowledge:

• Identify the laws and regulations governing the recovery, recycling and disposal of refrigerants.
• Describe the impact the CFC HCFC type refrigerants on the environment.
• Explain hazards, leak rate limits and repair techniques associated with units containing refrigerant.

Application:

• Differentiate between each level of refrigerant certification.
• Demonstrate how to properly leak check, evacuate, and charge a refrigeration system according to federal laws and manufacturer's requirements.
• Adjust a system's charge using proper charging and recovery methods.
• Determine the type of refrigerant in a system by reading pressures, temperatures, PT chart and the data plate.

Integration:

• Compare basic skills learned in this course to the work requirements in the industry.
• Integrate troubleshooting and schematic reading skills on an actual operating system.
