The Associate in Applied Science in Welding Technology is the highest credential in Northwestern Michigan College’s welding pathway and provides the most comprehensive preparation for a high-demand career and prepares graduates for higher-level technical positions, supervisory roles, and long-term career advancement within the welding and fabrication industry. With a national shortage of skilled welders, this program equips students with advanced training in SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, and FCAW-G, along with fabrication, print reading, metallurgy, electrical fundamentals and pipe welding. All coursework builds seamlessly from Certificates II, and III, ensuring no wasted credits and a clear route to expanded employment and career advancement.

Major Requirements

Placement into MTH 100 Quantitative Literacy or higher, or completion of MTH 100 Quantitative Literacy with a 2.0 or higher.

Students looking to transfer should place into 111 or higher or take MTH 120.
