This course covers algebra topics including functions, mathematical models, solving equations algebraically and graphically, polynomial functions, logarithmic functions, exponential functions, inverse functions, and linear and non-linear systems of equations. Applications are integrated throughout. Group 1 course. Quantitative Reasoning.

Required Prerequisites: A grade of 2.0 or better in MTH 111 or higher (excluding MTH 120 and MTH 131) or appropriate placement.

Knowledge: Determine the proper usage of mathematical terminology and symbolization associated with: algebraic expressions (polynomial, rational and radical), functions, inverse functions, composition of functions, factoring, equations (polynomial, radical and rational, exponential and logarithmic), inequalities (polynomial, rational and absolute value), graphing polynomial, rational, exponential and logarithmic functions, and transformations of the same. Use procedures to: evaluate and manipulate functions, perform operations and simplify algebraic expressions, simplify integer and rational exponents, factor algebraic expressions, solve polynomial, rational, radical, exponential, logarithmic, and systems of equations, solve polynomial and absolute value inequalities, graph polynomial, rational, exponential, and logarithmic functions and transformations of the same, and identify and locate key features of graphs of functions like; asymptotes, intercepts, and extrema. Application: Appropriate procedure in simplifying algebraic expressions, solving equations, including systems of equations, and/or written applications. Integration: Apply mathematical models to solve equations including applications. Interpret the solution in the context of the problem and justify the result. MTH 122 - Trigonometry

Course Description This course covers the definitions and graphic representations of the trigonometric functions. Triangles, angle measure, equations, identities, and inverse functions are discussed in detail. Law of Sines, Law of Cosines, and equations of the conic sections will also be covered. Group 1 course. Recommended Prerequisites or Skills Competencies Placement into ENG 111 General Education Outcomes supported by this course Quantitative Reasoning Course Learning Outcomes Knowledge: Show proper usage of angle measures, 6 trigonometric ratios, and functions and their inverses, basic trigonometric identities, Law of Sines, and Law of Cosines. Determine the proper usage of mathematical terminology and symbolization associated with: conic sections, solving trigonometric equations, verification of trigonometric identities. Use procedures to: graph and identify key features of conic sections, graph the trigonometric functions and their transformations, solve any type of triangle, solve trigonometric equations, and verify trigonometric identities. Application: Apply the appropriate procedure in simplifying trigonometric expressions, solving equations, and identities and solving triangles. Apply appropriate procedures to identify specific features of conic sections and then graph the conic section. Integration: Apply mathematical models to solve equations including applications. PHY 121 - General Physics I

Course Description This is the first course in a two semester sequence in General Physics. Topics include kinematics, Newton's Laws, conservation of momentum, conservation of energy, rotational motion, oscillations, and fluids. The laboratory covers the preceding topics in parallel with the lecture whenever possible. The development of conceptual understanding and problem solving skills is emphasized. Group 1 lab course.
