WPT 170 - Art Applications in Welding

Course Description

Art Applications in Welding introduces students to the creative side of welding by exploring its use in sculptural and functional art forms. Students apply a variety of welding and fabrication techniques to design and construct original works that integrate artistic principles with technical skill. The course emphasizes design concepts, safe equipment operation, material selection, and finishing methods, while promoting creative problem-solving and craftsmanship. Group 2 course.

Course Learning Outcomes

Knowledge:
  • Define and use foundational terminology common to the welding trade as defined by the American Welding Society (AWS).
Application:
  • Demonstrate proper handling, setup, and adjustments for desired welding process and cutting equipment.
Integration:
  • Demonstrate the ability to use the welding processes learned previously that apply to the right application for the desired art project.

  • Collaborate with others to clarify concepts, explain requirements, and critique work related to course standards and the ability to independently perform required welds.

  • Demonstrate and adhere to safe procedures in all welding and shop activities.

  • Demonstrate the ability to identify a proper weld as learned in previous classes and place welds in the proper location to create a sound structure.
